Today’s world may seem different from the world we have known. People are becoming more competitive in various aspects of life, especially in education. Because of this, we students must study hard in order for us also to be globally competitive.
But we also have to relax so that our brains will not be overworked. Students usually relax by going to the mall to shop, reading novels or short stories or playing computer games in an Internet café or at home. But which of these activities can give complete satisfaction? Let us scrutinize each and judge which activity is worth doing.
Firstly is going to the mall for shopping. It is considered a costly and expensive hobby because a person cannot be satisfied if he couldn’t buy things that he likes. And if he has bought the things that are dear to him, he still desires for more. Different persons have different tastes. A person may like these things but others may not. Because this activity is expensive, some people whose income is low try “window shoppingâ€. They look for items and their prices, and when they have the money, they will buy them.
Secondly is reading novels or short stories. This activity does not only relax the mind but also enrich one’s knowledge. You can gather information, improve and build up vocabulary and reading and writing skills and learn moral lessons that can be used in everyday life. You can also pick tips, out of the way ideas and techniques that can help in your studies. Reading will hone you to become a successful person by improving your knowledge of the world around you.
Thirdly is playing computer or video games. Whenever you are bored and you don’t like your time to go idle, you can do this activity. It is both fun and entertaining. It will make you improve your mental coordination. However, it does not promote healthy well- being since your mind, eyes, and fingers are the only ones who move. Also, its impact on children is very disastrous. They forgot to have meals and absent from their classes because they are focused in making their characters go to a higher level.
So, which activity is worth doing? Is it shopping, reading, or video games? The judgment is up to you. Just remember that everything in this world has their own drawbacks and it is up to us to make the decision whether to do the right or the wrong thing.
